Simply holding a shield between the enemy and themselves is enough for most shield users, but those who integrate the use of the shield with their martial techniques often learn Shield Warding.
Shield Warding requires the use of a shield. You can only make use of this Ability while wielding a shield.
Default Action
Shield Slam
Tempo: 3 + 1 if Shield is Heavy.
Range: Adjacent.
DT: Evasion.
You bash your opponent with your shield, dealing damage equal to Shield Slam's Rank.
Actions
Basic
Counter Shove
Tempo: 2 + 1 if Shield is Heavy.
Range: Adjacent.
DT: Check result of opponent's attack. When you successfully block a melee attack, you can use a Reaction to shove your opponent off balance. They gain Disadvantage 1 on all Checks for a number of rounds equal to the Rank of this Action.
Intercept
Tempo: 2.
DT: Evasion. When another participant attempts to move past you, such as when trying to approach an ally positioned behind you, you may use a Reaction to move Adjacent to that opponent and attempt to halt your enemy. A successful Check forces the target of this Action to immediately stop moving.
Although this is a Risky maneuver, it does not invite risk from the target you intercept. Other participants you pass when you move, however, might take advantage of the opportunity.
Shielded Stance
Tempo: 4.
By focusing on defending with your shield, you improve your ability to deflect attacks. While you maintain this stance, you add the Rank of this Action to your Evasion. However, your speed is cut in half.
Stance Action: Shield Guard
Tempo: 3.
When hit by an attack, you can use a Reaction to duck behind your shield. You add the Rank of this Action to your Toughness against that attack.
Using this Reaction does not reset the Count. Instead it only reduces your current Count by its Tempo.
Augments
Basic
Powerful Strikes
Your melee weapon attacks made with this Ability deal additional damage equal to the Rank of Powerful Strikes.
Sword and Board
Tempo: +[w].
You may combine the Shield Slam Action with a follow up attack with a melee weapon you wield, dealing damage with that weapon as normal. If the Shield Slam was successful, you gain Advantage 1 on this secondary attack.
Each Rank of this Augment reduces its Tempo increase by 1 to a minimum of 0.
