Mana Gathering

The most common method for obtaining useful mana requires meditative focus to harmonize with the ambient mana currents around you, carefully gathering and storing the energy within your mana channels. This process slowly but safely gathers mana which is already attuned to your natural energy.

      Rather than seeking out mana that resonates with your personal energy, you rapidly pull on the mana flows to draw any mana you can find towards you. Although you can gain mana twice as fast, that mana is more difficult to control.

      When resolving this Action, you gain Mana Points equal to two times the Count, up to your normal maximum mana. The Check DT is 12 + the number of MP gained.

      Because you draw on mana which doesn't naturally resonate with you, the Check for next spell you cast using this mana has Disadvantage 1.

    • Splash of Mana

      Tempo: 1. Max: 1.
      Mana Gained: 1.
      Range: Self.
      DT: 8 + MP gained.

      You metaphorically splash your feet in the mana currents, quickly gathering a small number of MP as they pass you by. The mana you can gather with this Action is rather limited, but it is easy to grasp.

      The easily gathered mana in an area depletes quickly. You may use this Action a number of times equal to its Rank, after which you can no longer gain mana with it.

      Augments and Effects which increase maximum Count do not affect this Action.

    • Torrential Gathering

      Tempo: 1. Max: 1.
      Mana Gained: 2 × Rank.
      Range: Self.
      DT: 12 + MP gained.

      Rather than carefully drawing a gentle flow of mana to yourself, you leap into the surging torrent and are buffeted by its power. You immediately gain MP equal to the Rank of this Action. Augments which increase maximum Count do not affect this Action.

      This surge of mana is physically and mentally draining and leaves your mana channels in disarray. You lose Vitality equal to half the MP gained and gain Disadvantage 1 on any Actions used to gather mana until you Recover.

      The Disadvantage imposed by using this Action applies even if the Check fails. Disadvantage gained from this Action stacks with itself.

    • Efficient Gathering

      By more quickly attuning with mana flows, you are able to gather MP twice as quickly. You may choose to gain 1 additional MP at each Count, up to a maximum equal to this Augment's Rank. Increasing the MP gained with this Augment increases the Check DT as normal for gathering additional mana.

      Example: Yensen Is’fa possesses Mana Gathering at Rank 4 and the Efficient Gathering Augment at Rank 2. By using this Augment, he is able to gather 1 MP per Count as normal plus 1 additional MP one the first and second Count. If Yensen gathers mana for Count 2, he will gain 4 MP. If he instead gathers MP for Count 4, the maximum his Rank allows, he will gain a total of 6 MP—that is 2 MP each for the first two Count and 1 MP at each Count thereafter.

    • Extended Gathering

      You are able to gather additional MP by increasing the amount of time you focus. Each Rank of Extended Gathering increases the maximum Count of this Ability by 1.

    • Mana Recirculation

      If you begin gathering mana on the Count immediately after casting a spell, you may choose to gain 1 additional MP per Count, up to a maximum equal half of the mana spent to cast that spell or this Augment’s Rank, whichever is less. This functions similarly to the Efficient Gathering Augment.

      Increasing the MP gained with this Augment increases the Check DT as normal for gathering additional mana.

    • Talented Gathering

      Through practice and dedicated effort, you are able to improve your skill with gathering mana. You may add your Rank in Talented Gathering to your Check whenever you use this Ability to gain mana.

    • Wide Mana Reservoir

      Each Rank of this Augment increases your maximum mana by 1. This applies only when you gather mana using this Ability and does not stack with other effects that increase your maximum mana. When using other Abilities to gather mana, you are still limited by your normal maximum mana.
