Some Abilities fall within the realm of extraordinary mental powers, where the boundaries of the mind extend far beyond the ordinary. These Psychic Abilities tap into the latent psychic potential within individuals, unlocking diverse powers allowing one to influence others, perceive the future and the past, and even reshape reality itself through sheer force of will.
Psychic Capacity
The ability to use psychic phenomena and harness the power of the mind is measured in metaphorical spoons, that is to say, you have only a certain capacity for exerting your mind in any given day, after which point, you are simply unable to focus enough to achieve the impossible. This mental energy is measured in Psychic Capacity (PC).
If you possess a Psychic Ability, you gain a number of d6s each day equal to your Psi Aptitude which represent your Psychic Capacity.
Strain
Each time you resolve an Action with the Psi Aspect, you roll one or more of your Psychic Capacity dice and compare them to the Strain caused by that Action.
Any dice that roll equal to or less than the Strain are overcome by the effort and are discarded, becoming unavailable and reducing your available Psychic Capacity until you rest and recover. Should you run out of dice, your Capacity is depleted, and you are unable to use any Actions with a Strain greater than 0.
Most Psi Actions indicate Strain as a single number, e.g. 3. This indicates that you roll a single d6 and must roll higher than 3 to retain it. If more than one die must be rolled, the number of dice is indicated with a multiplication sign, since you must check the Strain that number of times. For example, Strain: 2×3 would indicate that you must roll three dice and any that roll 2 or lower are discarded. If an Action requires multiple dice, you must have at least that many dice to use that Action.
